Shane McDermott is a cartoonist, character designer, illustrator, and former comics professor living and working in Memphis, Tennessee. He has a BFA in Design Arts with a Concentration in Illustration from Memphis College of Art and an MFA in Comics from California College of the Arts.

Shane worked for seven years as the staff editorial illustrator at The Commercial Appeal, the daily newspaper in Memphis, where he created numerous illustrations, info-graphics, and even his own comic series titled Drawing from Life. He taught Comics, Digital Painting, and Illustration at Memphis College of Art for 12 years and has created numerous educational comics on a broad range of topics for a variety of clients. Most recently, he's been working in animation as a background designer on "Baby Shark's Big Movie" for Nickelodeon and on the animated musical comedy "Central Park" from Bento Box Entertainment for Apple TV.

He lives in a cozy little ranch-style house with his small army of rescue dogs and cats. He enjoys pizza, running around with his dogs, complaining about having to make home repairs, 80’s music, newer music that sounds a lot like 80’s music, pizza, motorcycles, and pizza. He prefers the name “comics” to “graphic novels” and is likely to get real preachy about  it.

Shane is currently developing a pitch for a middle grade COMIC (graphic novel) in his spare time. He’s totally available for work in Comics as a penciler, inker, colorist, and/or letterer; as a background designer or character designer in animation or anything Illustration-related.
